Professional Practice
lead bim coordinator
My most recent architectural project was a 300+ apartment building located in Charlotte. I was the primary BIM modeler working alongside a project manager and peers.
Collaboration
Work closely with project managers and peers to ensure that the design is properly translated from sketches to 3D model. This involves constant communication, feedback and redlines. Make the design viable by adhering to local and state codes for constructibility, accessibility, and life safety.
Coordination
Strong communication skills with consultants and engineers to ensure they understand project intent, scope, and proper documentation of drawings. In practice, this involves coordinating issues like: alignment of structural columns and walls; maintaining proper clearances for accessibility within bathrooms, corridors, and living spaces; and possible clash issues with electrical, mechanical, and plumbing elements.
Global Design Thinking
BIM (Building Information Modeling) requires a global systems understanding in order to effectively model and document the building design. This involves understanding and knowing the parts that make the whole; how does adjusting an element affect the larger whole? This type of mental model is crucial in the success of a project.
